Forbes.com: The University of Florida announced this past week that it was dropping its computer science department, which will allow it to save about $1.7 million. The school is eliminating all funding for teaching assistants in computer science, cutting the graduate and research programs entirely, and moving the tattered remnants into other departments.
Students at UF have already organized protests, and have created a website dedicated to saving the CS department. Several distinguished computer scientists have written to the president of UF to express their concerns, in very blunt terms.
Meanwhile, the athletic budget for the current year is $99 million, an increase of more than $2 million from last year. The increase alone would more than offset the savings supposedly gained by cutting computer science.
Jesus, guys! You know, Computer Science wasn’t on the list of shitty majors. Not that I think they’re actually shitty majors, but really? Computer Science?
SCIENCE BAD! SPORTSBALL GOOD! WAY TO GO AMERICA!
So why are so many Florida students trying to get into UF?? So frustrating!
Go UCF, where they actually care about education and not just sports.

Total Loss to Date: 53.8 LBS :)
This was a really good week. I ate right and didn’t drink too much alcohol (which I have found to be a major catalyst in how my weight loss goes). I didn’t work out much, but I did today, and that’s a start. Work has been busy, but I shouldn’t use that as an excuse, but when you are working 12-15 hour days for days/weeks on end all you want to do is go home and veg. Which is also why I haven’t posted on Tumblr of late. Trying to do better.

Just made, and ate, probably my favorite Sunday dinner. Gina’s Herb Dijon Pork Chops with parmesan risotto. Honestly one of the best things known to man. :)
I didn’t really used to like pork chops. The only good way to eat them used to be to put applesauce all over them. Not any more. This is an absolute awesome recipe.

50 POUNDS GONE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!! Man, that feels good. It’s been a long time coming, but I really feel like I’m on the right track again and I’m feeling really happy about life. The last couple of months have been a struggle, mostly because I was not working out and because I had gotten a little too complacent as to what I could get away with food wise. Now I’m back on track on both fronts. And you know what? I get RESULTS! Amazing how that happens. :-)

Congratulations! I have missed your posts. :)
I’ve missed you guys too! I haven’t even have very much time to read lately, so I’m trying to get caught up on what’s happening with everyone.

Only .8 away from 50 pounds lost. I’m really looking forward to that. I’m going to have to work hard this week to work off the beer that I drank yesterday at St. Patty’s parties. :)
I know I haven’t posted much lately. Ok, I haven’t posted shit lately. There’s just been a lot of stuff going on in my world, and it’s been a lot crazy.
But I did want to share two things that happened in the last couple of days that remind me why I’m in this.
First, I purchased, and fit into, my first pair of non-plus size pants!!!!!! This is absolutely huge for me. I do not think that I have worn a non-plus size in at least 15 years, and it could possibly be longer than that. I bought a pair of pants at Dillards online, and thought I was buying the normal 18W (plus size) that I’ve bought previously. As it turns out, I bought an 18 regular. They fit really great, and I feel amazing in them.
Then yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with our corporate tax accountant. I hadn’t seen her in person for almost a year. This is someone that I talk to every once in a while, but she certainly was not “in” on the fact that I was losing weight or getting healthy. The minute she saw me, she literally screamed and said “OMG! What have you been doing??? You look amazing!” Wow - that was so cool. People tell me that I look different a lot, but they usually are saying that knowing that I have been doing this, and/or they see me all the time. This was someone that absolutely saying this based on nothing but appearance change. It was a really great moment.
So, Happy St. Patty’s Day everyone, and I hope you ALL have the opportunity to have a great moment like that this weekend. And remember, beer sucks in calories - green or otherwise!! :)
Thank you!! It’s honestly been a long time since I’ve had a message, especially one that is so nice. I hope you don’t mind me sharing… :)
Had a good workout today. Did the Planet Fitness Circuit and then did 6 minutes on the elliptical. For those of you that do hours on elliptical — don’t turn your nose at my 6 minutes. :) It was a personal best for me!
